Singing Praises

Singing Praises is about finding and voicing the song hidden within grief or sadness. Suspended within a single tear-shaped drop, the little black bird perches atop a skeleton-like shell and sings.

Part of the same "shell series" as the piece What Love Does , for Singing Praises, I selected shells that feel particularly spiky and skeletal, creating a kind of boneyard of past regrets from which praises might still emerge.

The background of Japanese text and swirling red lines creates a setting in which meaning is difficult to discern and things seem messy and scattered - and yet...there is always something to be grateful for, some ray of hope, some hint of a new story to be told.  Sad songs are some of the sweetest, aren't they?
